Mr Hugh - Cabernet Franc - The White Pony 2018 (6 bottles)
I have made wine from the Penbro Vineyard near Murrindindi for a number of years. Penbro have a small block of Cabernet Franc which has traditionally been blended with their Cabernet and Merlot to produce a Bordeaux style wine. Last year we kept the Franc separate and were astounded with the perfume, lift and sheer elegance of the wine. I asked my old friend Huon Hooke, wine critic extraordinaire if he felt this year’s wine was worth a stand-alone bottling. “Yes” (he replied). “It is very good indeed. The fruit is beautiful, loads of berries, a hint of mint and a fine elegant palate. Medium bodied, violets and fragrant herbs."
The White Pony line came from the boys in the winery who thought it was as good as Cheval Blanc which is also made primarily from Cabernet Franc.
